Cover Reveal: Afterworlds by Scott Westerfeld

One of my favorite authors is Scott Westerfeld, whose Uglies series has taken the world by storm since it first released, and when I first heard about his newest book, I was thrilled. Afterworlds is going to be a book to watch for this Fall!

From Entertainment Weekly:

Scott Westerfeld, the author of the extremely popular Uglies and Leviathan series, has a new novel novel coming out on Sept. 23. Afterworlds is a suspenseful thriller about a young writer, Darcy Patel, who arrives in New York City with a contract to write a YA novel. There’s a meta element: Darcy’s novel-within-the-novel, also called Afterworlds— about a girl who delves into a realm between the living and the dead to hide out during a terrorist attack — is woven into Darcy’s narrative as she learns to navigate life in the city.

Not only does this book sound absolutely fantastic…the cover is brilliance. Unfortunately, this book doesn’t release until September 23rd, but mark your calendars and take this day off work. It’s gonna be a busy day.

Cover Reveal: The Iron Trial by Holly Black and Cassandra Clare

One of the biggest series that I’ve been keeping my eye out for this year is Holly Black, co-author of The Spiderwick Chronicles, and Cassandra Clare’s, author of The Mortal Instruments trilogy, co-written middle grade series, Magisterium. It seems like everything the two of these authors touch turns immediately to gold. Here’s a little bit about book one, The Iron Trial.

From NEW YORK TIMES bestselling authors Holly Black and Cassandra Clare comes a riveting new series that defies what you think you know about the world of magic.

From two bestselling superstars, a dazzling and magical middle-grade collaboration centering on the students of the Magisterium, an academy for those with a propensity toward magic. In this first book, a new student comes to the Magisterium against his will — is it because he is destined to be a powerful magician, or is the truth more twisted than that? It’s a journey that will thrill you, surprise you, and make you wonder about the clear-cut distinction usually made between good and evil.

And finally after months of waiting, there is finally a cover for book one.

Thanks to USA Today for the reveal!

The five-book series, aimed at readers 8-12, features students at the Magisterium, an academy for those with a propensity toward magic. Clare says she had “a certain trepidation that I wouldn’t be able to capture a middle-grade voice, since I’ve only written for older teens. Working with Holly helped iron that out because she’s a middle-grade expert.”

Although it doesn’t come out until September 9th from Scholastic, you can head over to USA Today to read an exclusive excerpt The Iron Trial: Book One of the Magisterium.

What are your thoughts on the cover? I love it!

New Covers for Jordan Sonnenblick

It seems like Scholastic is taking steps to join the typographic cover craze that seems to be hot right now and with these covers, they’re doing it right! Both Jordan Sonnenblick’s Drums, Girls, and Dangerous Pies, originally released in 2004, and After Ever After, released 2010, struck the right chords when they came out telling a heartbreaking story about a kid with cancer that many have called a pre-The Fault in Our Stars.

Scholastic has revealed that they are reprinting this series with all new covers and they are gorgeous! Check out the covers and learn more about this series below! Read more

Cover Reveal: The Infinite Sea by Rick Yancy

The long awaited, much anticipated sequel to The 5th Wave by Rick Yancy finally has a cover to pine over until it’s release in September! And if you thought the year and a half wait in between books was hard enough…maybe this will tide you over for a bit longer.

From USA Today:

It continues the stories of Cassie Sullivan, the teenage heroine who spent much of the first novel searching for her younger brother Sam, and her former high school crush and now soldier Ben Parish after the aliens known as The Others unleashed the first four waves of their five-step plan to seemingly wipe out humanity. (The 1st Wave knocked out all power, the 2nd Wave brought disastrous tidal waves, the 3rd Wave unleashed a plague and the 4th Wave saw the Others disguise themselves as humans.)

Book Trailer: Hollow City by Ransom Riggs

Yesterday, Entertainment Weekly exclusively revealed the trailer for the highly anticipated sequel to the New York Times Bestselling Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, Hollow City. Now we are excited to share it with you in case you missed it!

The trailer is short and includes only one “peculiar” child, yet it still holds up with the creep factor of the series.

Hollow City releases on Jan 14, 2014, and thankfully there will be a third book in this series because I can almost bet there will be a big cliffhanger at the end. We can expect book three in Spring 2015.
