Ever since I first heard that Stephanie Perkins would be editing a Christmas-themed anthology with so many amazing authors, I awaited two days. First, the release day. But since that is still five months away I have a lot more waiting to do. Second, the day the cover was released. And that day has finally come.
I had a feeling this cover would be good. What I wasn’t expecting is that it would be absolutely stunning.
Take a look for yourself:
I mean, come on. That cover is gorgeous.
It was illustrated by Jim Tierney, who has illustrated some of my favorite covers. He is a master of typography and illustration. Check out his other work on his website.
I love how “Hallmark card” it feels. Like it’s been pulled out of some classic Christmas movie from the last century. And each of the illustrated characters on the cover represent a couple from each story.
It’s also a rare joy to see every single author represented on the cover. Most anthologies only have three or four of the top-billed authors on the cover with something like “and more” to allude to the rest of the contributors. So it’s nice to see every name sharing the cover.
On her blog, Stephanie talked about how this anthology is “a project about joy and friendship and love” and how “every author worked HARD to make this [the anthology] happen”, so “it was important to me that every author receive equal billing.”
I cannot believe how much amazing talent will be in this one book. I don’t even know how it’ll contain it all. I mean, Holly Black! Ally Carter! Matt de la Peña! Gayle Forman! Jenny Han! David Levithan! Kelly Link! Myra McEntire! Rainbow Rowell! Laini Taylor! Kiersten White!
As for Stephanie’s story, she gave us a little hint as to what it’s about on her blog.
It’s called “It’s a Yuletide Miracle, Charlie Brown,” and it’s about a girl named Marigold, a boy named North, a beautiful Christmas tree lot, and one life-changing night. It’s the first story I’ve written that I’ve set in my hometown of Asheville, NC. And it was so much fun!
Stephanie also teased the nature of the rest:
All twelve stories are romantic and smart and funny and breathtaking. Some of them will make you cry. Others will make you laugh out loud. They’ll all make you swoon.
It’s enough to melt my heart like marshmallows in hot chocolate.
My True Love Gave to Me will be released on October 14th.
