Blog Tour Review: Better Off Friends by Elizabeth Eulberg

We are so excited to be a part of the launch blog tour for Elizabeth Eulberg's Better Off Friends! Check out the list of other bloggers here to keep up with all of the stops!

For Macallan and Levi, it was friends at first sight. Everyone says guys and girls can’t be just friends, but these two are. They hang out after school, share tons of inside jokes, their families are super close, and Levi even starts dating one of Macallan’s friends. They are platonic and happy that way.

Eventually they realize they’re best friends — which wouldn’t be so bad if they didn’t keep getting in each other’s way. Guys won’t ask Macallan out because they think she’s with Levi, and Levi spends too much time joking around with Macallan, and maybe not enough time with his date. They can’t help but wonder . . . are they more than friends or are they better off without making it even more complicated?

From romantic comedy superstar Elizabeth Eulberg comes a fresh, fun examination of a question for the ages: Can guys and girls ever really be just friends? Or are they always one fight away from not speaking again — and one kiss away from true love?

Not too long ago, I attended a novel cuisine luncheon (a lunch where we ate foods from novels) and received a copy of Elizabeth Eulberg’s ARC, Better Off Friends. Naturally, I was excited to read this book because it takes place in Wisconsin and I’m currently living in Wisconsin. Plus, we ate a giant cheese-ball at the luncheon in honor of this book and I am coincidentally a huge fan of cheese. And now, I am a huge fan of this book!

Better Off Friends is a cute story about two best friends, Macallan and Eli, who experience a series of obstacles that continuously test their unique, and at times questionable, relationship. Macallan is a native Wisconsinite and Eli, originally from California, moves to Wisconsin when his dad is offered a new job. The two of them originally start off at odds when first meeting in middle school but when they discover they have a mutual interest in a British sitcom, their friendship becomes long lasting and full of a lifetime of inside jokes.

I absolutely loved how Elizabeth Eulberg writes in alternating POV’s and includes a little dialogue commentary from Macallan and Eli in between each chapter. Better Off Friends is fast paced and full of lots of swoon as it follows the two of them through middle and high school. As I kept reading, my admiration for these characters only strengthened. They are both incredibly sweet and genuine and, overall, extremely relatable people.

It’s not unusual to find boy-girl friendship dynamics in young adult books, however, Elizabeth Eulberg writes this story from a fresh and witty standpoint making it both a memorable and enjoyable read. If you are looking for a feel-good, contemporary romance, this is the book for you!

  1. Yeah, I had a crush on a friend before but nothing happened because well, I guess because I was young and I value our friendship over some silly childhood crush. Now we're still friends :)
