Review: Easy by Tammara Webber

He watched her, but never knew her. Until thanks to a chance encounter, he became her savior…

The attraction between them was undeniable. Yet the past he’d worked so hard to overcome, and the future she’d put so much faith in, threatened to tear them apart.

Only together could they fight the pain and guilt, face the truth—and find the unexpected power of love.

A groundbreaking novel in the New Adult genre, Easy faces one girl's struggle to regain the trust she's lost, find the inner strength to fight back against an attacker, and accept the peace she finds in the arms of a secretive boy.

This is a novel I wish a few of my friends had read before they went off to college. EASY, by Tammara Webber, is not a portrayal of a utopian college -- it’s the real deal. As the novel follows Jacqueline, a college sophomore, the reader can’t help but cringe, smile, and feel unconditional sympathy for her and her peers.

I have to admit, I was a little hesitant to pick up this book. The whole “good girl” “bad guy” dynamic seems to be a recent fad within this particular book genre and not commonly seen in real life. However, as I kept reading, I was pleasantly surprised by how beautifully and authentically the story is told. This is a novel any college student or former college student can relate to, I often felt like I was there alongside Jacqueline.

Given that I am a hopeless romantic, naturally, I loved this story. And despite each character’s very apparent flaws, there is an abundance of hope for all of them. What I found most captivating is how each person holds a unique story of their own. It’s amazing how their stories gradually weave together and are slowly revealed through even the smallest of gestures.

At one point in the novel, Jacqueline questions how someone could be “capable of ripping a girl’s self confidence away in the span of five minutes” and I think that, unfortunately, this is a question a lot of girls ask themselves. EASY was most certainly an enjoyable read, but it also was a powerful and uplifting one. This novel provides a great example of the type of standard everyone should hold when it comes to their relationships, both intimately and non-intimately.

I personally can’t rave about this novel enough. It is so well done at providing a typical college scene in its rawest form, but still manages to be informative and lighthearted. EASY is a story that draws upon emotions everyone can relate to, college student or not, which is why it will receive a special spot on my bookshelf to reread in years to come.

  1. This is one of my all-time favorites novels! I've given to quite a few high school girls before they left for college. Great review!
