YA Fantasy 'Red Queen' Sells to Universal

Author Victoria Aveyard, whose trilogy just recently sold to HarperCollins, has officially signed a deal with Universal Pictures, acquiring film rights to her series. In what is sure to be a fantastic series, I really hope it makes it through the gauntlet of Hollywood.

Here's what Deadline had to say:
Universal Pictures has optioned Red Queen, a novel by 22-year-old author Victoria Aveyard. Benderspink and Pouya Shazbazian are producing, and Christopher Cosmos producing in some capacity. The first in a trilogy, Red Queen is set in a fantasy world where society is divided by the color of blood. It features a 17 year old girl who, to save her family, must assume the role of a long-lost princess while secretly aiding a revolution; her actions put into motion a deadly and violent dance, pitting prince against prince and her against her own heart. It is pitched as Divergent meets Game Of Thrones.

First of all, how amazing does this series sound?! Two of my favorite things, Game of Thrones and Divergent, coming together. It has to be good.

Pouya Shahbazian is the agent/producer behind the adaptation of Dan Kroko's The Planet Thieves and Veronica Roth's Divergent films! Benderspink has also produced countless films like The Ring, The Butterfly Effect series, and more recently The Incredible Burt Wonderstone. So you can see they have interests all over the genre spectrum. I feel like Victoria is in good hands and truly hope her series hits the big screen. Congrats, Victoria!
