Fox has officially rejected the Delirium television pilot, which if picked up would’ve been on this fall.
As unfortunate as it seems, it looks like major networks aren’t taking the bait on young adult adaptations for television. None of them are willing to throw enough money at a series in hopes of it becoming a franchise success like the Vampire Diaries. Even the CW rejected the first pilot for The Selection based on the young adult series by Kiera Cass.
It’s unclear why Fox rejected it at this time, but we got the confirmation from actor Gregg Sulkin on twitter that it was officially canned:
Devastated #Delirium didn’t get picked up.

Also tweeting out a message shortly afterwards through his WhoSay:
May 8, 2013: Here is a message to all my fans
Unfortunately, it’s official that Delirium did NOT get picked up by FOX.
Firstly, and I am sure I speak on behalf of all the cast, I would like to thank everyone for their support over the past few weeks. Never have I experienced, or seen anything like that in my life. Your support for the show has simply been sensational. I am very humbled and grateful.
The cast, producers, crew are as devastated as you are. We were all extremely passionate about this project, and was looking forward to working with each other on a regular basis. It wasn’t meant to be.
However, as they say, as one door closes, another opens, and I hope you guys continue to stay on this journey with me.
Of course, I would have loved the show to get on the air, but lets continue now to kick on, as a team, and I hope I can continue to make you guys proud in the future.
All the best,
Maybe with enough of an outcry from fans, Fox will rethink the pilot and approve a re-shoot/re-edit like the CW did with The Selection in hopes of a better result the second time. But for now all we can do is mourn the loss of what would’ve been a great new tv series.
The Delirium pilot starred Emma Roberts, Gregg Sulkin, Daren Kagasoff, and Jeanine Mason and was based on a young adult series of the same name by Lauren Oliver.
