With a huge fan base and readership, Andrea Cremer's Nightshade series has been an international and New York Times bestseller. Which is only fitting for such an awesome and kind author. I've had the privilege to meet and talk with her quite a few times, and I just have to say, she is the nicest and most intelligent person ever.
And now that she has her new prequel series coming out, it's exciting to be able to read more of her work. Here's a little bit about where her new series picks up from with Rift and where you can expect the series to go with it's sequel, Rise.
From RT Book Reviews:
Rift follows the story of two women and the choices they make: the first is Ember — a sixteen-year-old initiate into a secretive clerical order called Conatus. Ember longs to break free of the role expected of her as the daughter of a nobleman. When she joins the Conatus Guard, Ember believes she’s found the freedom and adventure she’s dreamed of, but she faces a new challenge in the fierce warrior, Barrow, who’s been charged with her training. Thrust into life and death moments while at Barrow’s side leaves Ember breathless with newfound strength — and something else she’s only beginning to understand. The second is Eira — a veteran knight of Conatus whose frustration with the corruption of her superiors tempts her into dangerous choices. Eira is slowly drawn into an intimate alliance with a dark, mysterious figure who will change her world forever. The twists and turns of these two characters’ lives, and the immediate consequences of their actions, reveal how the Witches War began. Rise explores the emergence of the Keepers and the source of their dark magic as well as the risk of love and the price of betrayal. -- Andrea Cremer

Jeremy: With Rift's release date getting closer and closer, how excited are you to be starting a new series apart from your beloved Calla, Ren, and Shay?
Andrea: What's fantastic about RIFT and RISE is that while I am beginning a new story, set in a completely different time and place and featuring original characters, this pair of novels tells the tale of how the Witches War began. You don't need to have read the Nightshade trilogy to understand and enjoy the new books, but if you're already a fan of the series this duet will answer quite a few questions about where Calla's world began.
Upon seeing the cover for Rise for the first time, what was your reaction?
It took my breath away! I find the image so arresting and I love the glow of the torch's flame in the background.
Do you feel it ties in really well with the book specifically and the series as a whole?
Absoutely! This cover image reflects a scene straight out of the novel - where Ember is exploring a dark, dangerous place she shouldn't be - the cover captures the tone of the book perfectly.
Any additional thoughts on the cover or series to close us out?
I can't wait for readers to meet Ember and to learn about the the origins of the Keepers and Searchers. It's a new adventure full of thrills and romance that I hope fans of Nightshade and new readers alike will love!
