Jennifer's Best Books of 2011

At the very end of 2010, I challenged myself to read a 100 books in 2011. Pretty ambitious considering I think I’d read a max of 30 in all my years prior.

Anyway, when the clock struck midnight on January 1st, 2012, I had 125 to my name, thank you very much! So welcome to my own personal version of the book Oscars.

Note: they are not ranked within each category, only alphabetized by author.

Here my rankings of the year of 125 books:

Top 5
These books are in the Top 5 for one reason alone: they invaded my brain. DAYS after reading, I kept thinking about them. Complete invasion like that is difficult to achieve, so well done.

Perfect Chemistry by Simone Elkeles
Amy and Roger’s Epic Detour by Morgan Matson
Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins
Forbidden by Tabitha Suzuma
The Book Thief by Markus Zusak

The Top Runner-Ups
Megan Meade’s Guide to the McGowan Boys by Kate Brian
Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi
The Son of Neptune by Rick Riordan

The Best Contemporaries
Audrey, Wait by Robin Benway
Unforgettable by Loretta Ellsworth
Saving June by Hannah Harrington
The DUFF by Kody Keplinger
The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks by E. Lockhart
Without Tess by Marcella Pixley
Boy21 by Matthew Quick
The Day Before by Lisa Schroeder
Stick by Andrew Smith
The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight by Jennifer E. Smith

The Darkest Reads
Death Watch by Ari Berk
Anna Dressed in Blood by Kendare Blake
Graveminder by Melissa Marr
Cryer’s Cross by Lisa McMann
Slice of Cherry by Dia Reeves
Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs

Best Action Reads

Heist Society by Ally Carter
Uncommon Criminals by Ally Carter
Divergent by Veronica Roth

You might think 27 books is a lot for a “favorites” list, but that’s only like 20% of all the books I read. So really, that’s pretty good.
