Earlier today Barnes & Noble released the cover for a new YA collaboration by Jay Asher and Carolyn Mackler, The Future of Us. I had never heard of this book prior to picking it up at BEA this year. Penguin placed a full page ad in the "BEA Times" (or whatever you want to call the daily paper they had to share daily events and the like) teasing a "one-time ARC availability" and without even knowing what the book was, I waited in line. The rumors were floating all around us, but the most notable was that it was Jay Asher's new book. Now, I haven't read Thirteen Reasons Why yet, but it was one of the first books that got Jeremy into Young Adult fiction, so I knew it must be good. Even now, 4 years after it's release, it's still getting bigger getting him a spread in Entertainment Weekly entitled "Why teen-suicide novel 'Thirteen Reasons Why' is saving lives: An interview with Jay Asher". It is truly a life-changing book.
So now that you know some background, The Future of Us comes out this November and it is remarkable. Though it's theme isn't as serious as Thirteen Reasons Why, you can bet you'll learn something new about yourself after reading this book. Jeremy will be reviewing it a little bit closer to release, but for now I just wanted to share my love for it.
It's quirky, unique, and totally worth picking up. It was the first ARC from BEA that I read and I flew through it in the car ride home. SO GOOD! If you stayed with me through this entire post, thank you. You really didn't have to. No really, it's just a picture. So here it is, the cover of The Future of Us:
I love the use of binary code as a kind of mosaic! It is just so cool. I've never seen anything like it. The only thing I have against it is the use of the blue "f" in Future. I know they were going for a "Facebook" look, but I think it takes away from the aesthetics . Overall though, I really like it. IF you have a chance to get your hands on an ARC, read it. You won't want to wait!
