Meeting Scott Westerfeld

Last night was awesome! My friends and I had the chance to drive down to Decatur, GA to Little Shop of Stories to meet Scott Westerfeld. Scott is the author of Leviathan, and more recently, Behemoth, the Uglies series, the Midnighters series, Peeps, and more! We started on the road at 4:30 and arrived at the bookstore just after 6...which is good, even in traffic! We were some of the first to get there so we browsed the shop and I bought a copy of Behemoth to get signed. The workers then gave each of us a ticket stub to order the signing line. We wanted good seats so we waited first in line to go upstairs to the loft where the Q/A was happening. Luckily they had a few couches along with chairs and benches...we took the couches :)

When Scott came out, everyone was excited to see him and he started off answering FAQ before opening up to the crowds Q's to avoid repetition. Then the Q/A session went on for another 30 minutes or so before heading downstairs to begin signing books! Here is a video of the Q/A mentioned above (warning: it's 13 minutes long but contains great insight into Scott and his writing!):

One exciting thing is that his wife, author Justine Larbalestier, was also travelling with him. We had known this previously so we brought all of our Justine books that she graciously signed for us! While we waited for Scott, we just sat and talked with Justine. Finally, when our number was called, we went downstairs with our stack of books and stood in yet another line. When we finally got up to Scott, we had a great conversation, even if it was short lived, while he signed all of our books! But we were just at the near beginning of the signing line, and  his wife needed company while she waited. We went back upstairs and talked with Justine about everything from books to authors to friends...but mostly books!

After all the books had been signed and everyone had left the store, all that was left were the employees, Scott and Justine, and us! We took a few pictures with them, said our goodbyes, then headed down the street for dinner at Ragin' Burrito. After the delicious yet semi-expensive dinner, we headed back to the car and back on the road home. At the end of the night, we had a great time together and got many books signed!

  1. Awww, look yall all are wearing plaid! You boys are the best and have that easy personality that makes everyone want to talk to you and be your friends.

  2. Wow! Scott!! he looks so nice, and his books are awesome :)
    Glad you had fun!

  3. What a fun day! You know what I love about the video? He is authentic, not some stuffed shirt trying to be something he's not...most writers are though, but still, I love that quality. :-)

  4. New follower here!

What an amazingly cool experience!!... and the bookstore looks amazing too!

I'll have to see if Westerfield is going to be stopping anywhere near me!
