Review: Beautiful Darkness by Kami Garcia and Margie Stohl

Ethan Wate used to think of Gatlin, the small Southern town he had always called home, as a place where nothing ever changed. Then he met mysterious newcomer Lena Duchannes, who revealed a secret world that had been hidden in plain sight all along. A Gatlin that harbored ancient secrets beneath its moss-covered oaks and cracked sidewalks. A Gatlin where a curse has marked Lena's family of powerful supernaturals for generations. A Gatlin where impossible, magical, life-altering events happen. Sometimes life-ending.

Together they can face anything Gatlin throws at them, but after suffering a tragic loss, Lena starts to pull away, keeping secrets that test their relationship. And now that Ethan's eyes have been opened to the darker side of Gatlin, there's no going back. Haunted by strange visions only he can see, Ethan is pulled deeper into his town's tangled history and finds himself caught up in the dangerous network of underground passageways endlessly crisscrossing the South, where nothing is as it seems.
Beautiful Darkness is the second book in the Caster Chronicles series. It flowed seamlessly from the first book continuing the story about two days after Lena's 16th birthday. The opening scene crushed me yet at the same time pushed me to move on, like Lena. But she feels guilt from what happened and runs away. This epic story continues the story of Ethan and Lena as they fight for what they love. I can't explain to you in words how awesome this book is's just something you'll have to discover all on your own. For those of you who know me you know that I'm a big fan of magic/powers (Dark or Light) and BD just made my love for it grow stronger! I just loved this book...also the tension in it was perfect (and there's a lot of it). I really enjoyed the love triangle that comes about tearing Ethan between the girl he can never be with and the one he has a chance with. I myself wish I could find me a Liv of my'll find out why once you read the book. The romance was great too. Finally when people ask me "What is your favorite series of all time?" (besides Harry Potter) I can tell them "The Caster Chronicles! You must read it!"

I want to thank Kami and Margie for such great work on this book. Currently they are finalizing book three getting all of the edits in and such. Also there has been no title given yet but I can't wait to see what it is! Now I read an ARC of this book which is nice since it doesn't come for three more months but that just means I have to wait more than a year for the third book....which makes me really sad! Thanks for checking out this review and if you haven't read Beautiful Creatures yet then you must do it now and if yo haven't read Beautiful Darkness yet then you will probably have to wait until October unless you're lucky like me.
