Review: Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia and Margie Stohl

Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia and Margie Stohl

Lena Duchannes is unlike anyone the small Southern town of Gatlin has ever seen, and she’s struggling to conceal her power and a curse that has haunted her family for generations. But even within the overgrown gardens, murky swamps, and crumbling graveyards of the forgotten South, a secret cannot stay hidden forever.
Ethan Wate, who has been counting the months until he can escape from Gatlin, is haunted by dreams of a beautiful girl he has never met. When Lena moves into the town’s oldest and most infamous plantation, Ethan is inexplicably drawn to her and determined to uncover the connection between them.
In a town with no surprises, one secret could change everything.
This book was spectacular! I mean it when say that I have never read any other book like this (and I loved it!). Magic has always been dear to my hart ever since growing up wishing I could go to Hogwarts. I love when someone can take something s classic as "magic" and turn it into an epic adventure filled with romance, tension, and flat out beauty! This book itself truly is a beautiful creature. Both Kami and Margie have opened up the deep south, with it's dark and typically black magic, more than I could have imagined. I will never see Charleston, SC the same ever again and since I go there at least once a year I will never forget! Here are some things I really loved about the book:
  1. 1. Some possessed hidden "powers"
  2. 2. True love has no limit
  3. 3. The power to defeat evil lies within us
  4. 4. Ethan never gave up on Lena although she had given up on herself
And the list could go on! Over all, I loved this book! It is quite possibly my favorite of all. I also loved the throwback to to Kill A Mockingbird which is my favorite classic book. I urge you guys to check this one out! And look for Beautiful Darkness to release on October 12th!

  1. I liked this one too! Can't wait for the next one! I heard it was excellent on audio too. Tried to get it from my library but they didn't have the audio version. Would love to hear the southern accents :)

  4. This book is awesome and lead to the term CASTER RATED to define books that look girlie but that guys should read. Beautiful Darkness is even better. The only problem is that we have to wait so long for the third one to come out and the second isn't even on the shelves yet.
PS I'm adding you to my blogroll if that's ok.

  5. Great review. I loved this book too. Mollie & Ella, I listened to the audiobook and it was really good. There were sound effects like rain and music. It was well done, but sometimes so subtle that I thought it was actually raining out.
